Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) has distributed food to 1,600 Palestine refugees in Khan Younis, South Gaza. MER-C ready-to-eat food program at shelters in Southern Gaza has been ongoing since November 30th , 2023.
One of the MER-C volunteers in Gaza, Fikri Rofiul Haq, said in a statement on Wednesday (10/01) that, MER-C slaughtered 15 goats resulting a total of 300 kilogram of meat, and cooked approximately 75 kilogram of rice.
Fikri explained that in Gaza, people don’t usually eat rice every day. They typically consume bread as their daily food. Therefore, eating rice like this only occurs on special occasions like fridays, where people enjoy big meals together.
In its current location, Fikri said that previously there were only 1,200 Gaza residents took refugee in school building. However, the number has continued to increase and has now reached over 1,600 including those who have suffered injuries.
Every day, for over a month, two MER-C volunteers in Gaza strip, namely Fikri Rofiul Haq and Reza Aldilla Kurniawan, assisted by local staff, have been trying to prepare ready-to-eat food program regularly.
