Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School held off a spirited second-half comeback from Lomary Secondary School to claim the Weet-Bix Raluve Under-18 title with a thrilling 13-12 victory at HFC Bank Stadium this afternoon.
MGM dominated the opening half, targeting the breakdowns and using their physicality to put Lomary under pressure. Their strong start paid off as they raced to a 10-0 halftime lead.
Lomary responded strongly after the break, crossing for two tries to close the gap and set up a tense finish. However, MGM’s defence stood firm in the closing stages, allowing them to hold on for a memorable one-point victory.
Captain and Player of the Match Lidia Waqairapoa praised her teammates for their determination and dedicated the title win to the school community, supporters, and her family.
“This win is for our school, our supporters, and my family who have always been behind me,” Waqairapoa said.
The victory caps off an impressive campaign for MGM, who showcased resilience and discipline to secure the prestigious Raluve Under-18 crown.
