As the FMF Hibiscus Festival continues at Albert Park, young women taking part in this year’s pageant are being encouraged to make the most of the opportunity and believe in themselves.

Miss Pacific Islands 2026, Ailava Samuels, who is also preparing to take on judging duties at the Miss Samoa Hawaii Pageant next month, says stepping into the role is a major milestone in her own journey.

Having once been a contestant herself, Samuels highlighted that she never imagined she would one day become a pageant judge, admitting that she was once afraid of stepping into the spotlight.

“I only have one advice, which is to take the opportunity and do your best. You only get this chance once in your life, and you’d rather be the person that said, ‘I tried it,’ than the person who said, ‘I wish I tried it’, because there’s no losses in life, there’s only lessons” Samuels highlighted.

Samuels shared that her experience has taught her the importance of courage and personal growth, encouraging young women to be proud of themselves and take chances when opportunities come their way.

She also added that the Hibiscus Festival continues to provide an important platform for young women, while giving them the chance to grow, learn and step outside their comfort zones.

“So be proud of yourself, be courageous, be brave, and most importantly, do it for you” she added.
