Students of Ratu Sauvoli Memorial School in Rewa are expected to benefit from improved learning conditions following the groundbreaking ceremony for a new three-classroom block held this week.

The project, worth over $510,000, will create additional classroom space for students in Years 6 to 8 while helping reduce congestion and replace older school facilities.

Minister for Education Hon. Aseri Radrodro said the new building will be designed to meet Category 5 cyclone standards, allowing it to function not only as a learning facility but also as an evacuation centre for nearby communities during times of disaster.

Founded in 1860, Ratu Sauvoli Memorial School currently caters for more than 300 students from 10 villages across the Noco District.

Funding for the development is being provided through the Government and people of Japan under the Japan Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects programme.

Minister Radrodro said the initiative demonstrates Government’s ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education for children living in rural and maritime areas by providing safer and more supportive learning spaces.

He also encouraged schools nationwide to continue prioritising student welfare, academic achievement, and preparations for the upcoming mid-year examinations.
