Member of Parliament Sanjay Kirpal and co-accused Anal Avinash Ram have been granted bail after appearing in the Suva Magistrates Court on a charge of assault.
The two appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne this afternoon.
The two men are jointly charged with one count of assault in relation to an alleged incident that took place at Kirpal’s home last Sunday.
Police prosecution did not object to bail and informed the court that there was no domestic relationship between the parties involved.
The court released both accused on a non-cash bail bond of $500 each.
As part of their bail conditions, Kirpal and Ram must not interfere with prosecution witnesses and must not change their residential address.
The prosecution also requested time to confirm the complainant’s position on whether reconciliation is being considered.
The case has been adjourned to the 28th of this month for the prosecution to update the court on the reconciliation status.
If the complainant does not wish to reconcile, the two accused will take their plea.
