The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) responded swiftly when it received reports that the inter-island passenger and cargo vessel Lomaiviti Princess 1 was drifting off the Savusavu Lighthouse.
The vessel was en-route from Savusavu Wharf to Narain Jetty, Suva, when it encountered difficulties.
In response to the emergency, MSAF issued directives for the safety and well-being of all passengers
and the vessel itself.

In a press statement, MSAF said efforts were initiated to have the Lomaiviti Princess 1 towed back safely to the Savusavu Wharf.
MSAF CEO Joeli Cawaki issued directives for the safe disembarking of passengers, cargo and
vehicles at Savusavu.

He said passengers were advised to travel via the Nabouwalu-Natovi route and were requested to liaise directly with Goundar Shipping Limited regarding alternative travel arrangements.
Mr Cawaki said the Lomaiviti Princess 1 will undergo necessary special survey protocols to determine the cause of the incident.
He said he was actively liaising with Goundar Shipping Limited to address this incident.
Mr Cawaki said MSAF was committed to upholding maritime safety and wanted to reassure the public that every measure was being taken to address the situation effectively.

Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.

Police issued a statement advising that the Goundar Shipping vessel Lomaiviti Princess 1 (LP 1) was being towed back to Savusavu.

The ship departed for Suva at 3am today, faced engine problems and drifted without power.

Police said the LP 1 was towed by landing craft Waimana and was expected to arrive at the Savusavu Port at midday.
