The Nadarivatu Community-Based Forest Park was officially opened last Friday, marking a significant milestone in Fiji’s efforts to promote eco-tourism, protect natural resources, and support sustainable development.

The park, located in a central area connecting the districts of Ba, Ra, and Naitasiri, is poised to play a key role in the region’s economic and environmental future.

Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Alitia Bainivalu, emphasized the park’s strategic location and its potential to drive both environmental and socio-economic benefits for local communities.

The project aims to protect the environment, create sustainable livelihoods, and combat the challenges posed by climate change.

In her address, Bainivalu explained that the Nadarivatu Forest Park exemplifies the Ministry’s commitment to conservation and eco-tourism.

“This initiative not only preserves natural resources but also provides a model for communities to generate income while understanding the value of nature,” she said.

The park will serve as a vital hub for eco-tourism, showcasing the importance of healthy ecosystems in combating the effects of climate change.

It also aligns with Fiji’s National Development Plan, which focuses on enhancing the livelihoods of resource owners, ensuring the sustainability of natural resources, and contributing to economic recovery.

Bainivalu also recognized the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Lands, her own Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, and the local landowning communities, all of whom worked together to bring the park to fruition.

She concluded her address by highlighting that the Nadarivatu Forest Park is a model example of how collective action can yield positive impacts for communities and the environment.
