Namosi survived a spirited second-half fightback from Yasawa to secure a hard-fought 33-27 victory in an entertaining Pio Bosco Challenge.

Namosi made a flying start, with Asena Rokomarama crossing twice early in the match. Both conversions were successful as Namosi raced to a commanding 14-0 lead.

Yasawa responded through halfback Makelesi Tamoi, who touched down for her side’s opening try. The conversion was added to reduce the deficit to 14-7.

Namosi regained control when their prop forward, wearing number one, crashed over for the team’s third try. The successful conversion extended their lead to 21-7.

Yasawa refused to go away, with Milika Drugunavanua powering over for a crucial try. Although the conversion attempt was unsuccessful, Yasawa closed the gap to 21-12.

Namosi struck again before the break, adding another converted try to stretch the score to 28-12. However, Yasawa finished the half strongly with their third try, narrowing the margin to 28-17 after the conversion missed.

The second half belonged largely to Yasawa, who mounted a determined comeback. Salote Vuniwaqa opened the scoring after the restart, crossing for a try that brought Yasawa within six points at 28-22 after the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Namosi answered with a vital try of their own, but the missed conversion left the door open at 33-22.

Yasawa continued to press and scored another unanswered try late in the contest, trimming the deficit to 33-27. However, Namosi’s defense held firm in the closing stages to seal the victory.
