Mukesh Nand has resigned from his position as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission – leaving Ateca Ledua the only remaining member of the Commission.
The confirmation was made this afternoon by the Acting Supervisor of Elections – Ana Mataiciwa, in her capacity as Acting-Secretary to the Electoral Commission.
Mataiciwa said she received communication from the Office of the President, conveying the acceptance of the letter of resignation from Nand, by the President Ratu Williame Katonivere, today.
He was appointed as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission on the 24th of February 2022, overseeing the 2022 General Election.
Mataiciwa in extending the gratitude and appreciation of the FEO and the Electoral Commission – thanked Nand for his selfless service and sacrifice, to the important role of Chairperson of the Electoral Commission thus far.
In addition to the five (5) vacant positions in the Electoral Commission, the position of Chairperson is now also vacant. All appointments will be made by the President, on the advice of the Constitutional Offices Commission.
Meanwhile Fiji One News still awaits a response from the Attorney-General, regarding the appointment of the vacant positions by the COC.
