Fiji Rugby is using the Nasoko competition to also strengthen its women’s rugby pathway by identifying promising schoolgirl players from across the four zones.

Women’s Academy Coach Tavaita Rokowati says 30 players will be selected for scholarships, with another 30 placed in a development programme as part of the next stage of their rugby journey.

“This is part of our pathway programme which Ministry of Education and Fiji Rugby Union under the programme of women’s high performance as we build our pathway through to the national team.”

The selected players will be monitored through the high-performance system as Fiji looks to build a stronger pool for its national 7s and 15s teams.

“The reason for this programme is we want to start using the right resource and using the people that are available to identify the best players and also streamline them for the National 7s and 15s Programme. Hopefully by the end of this week, we should be able to get our best 30 players that will be monitored under our national and our high performance academy programme and build them up to feed into the national team which is the National 7s and 15s.”
