The Nasoko Rugby Tournament is bringing together promising young boys and girls from schools across Fiji’s Western, Southern, Northern and Eastern zones after the conclusion of the Fiji Secondary School’s Rugby Competitions.

Former Head Coach for the Under 18 School Boys, Peniona Ranitu says the competition provides a platform for players to test themselves against some of the best young talent from around the country, with the added incentive of earning selection into the Under-18 School Boys team.

He explains that while skills individuality will be a key area to identify talent, team work will also be paramount.

“The boys will have to play as a team. It is about team effort while also identifying individual skills.”

For many of the participants, the tournament is also an opportunity to catch the attention of selectors and secure scholarship opportunities as they pursue their rugby and academic ambitions.

“As mentioned by FRU, they are going to provide these scholarships for places that have been arranged where these players will be going to for rugby and education as well.”
