More than 300 villagers of Nauluvatu Village, Waidina, Naitasiri, now have access to an improved water supply system following an investment of $212,769.65 through the Rural Water Programme.

The new system serves approximately 328 people across 68 households and was officially commissioned by the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

Implemented by the Water Authority of Fiji, the project addresses longstanding water supply challenges caused by ageing infrastructure, including deteriorated galvanised iron pipes that contributed to leaks, disruptions and intermittent supply.

The project includes a new surface water dam, a 95,550-litre ferrocement storage tank, approximately 1.6 kilometres of new pipelines, an Ecological Purification System, standpipes and household service connections.

“Ro Filipe says this project is not simply about infrastructure, but is about improving the quality of life for the people of Nauluvatu.

Villagers were reminded to take ownership of the new system, use water responsibly, protect the infrastructure and promptly report faults or leakages.

The system has been operational since March 2025 and is designed to improve supply reliability, reduce costly repairs and provide sufficient capacity for the village’s future growth.

The project forms part of Government’s continued efforts to improve access to safe, reliable and sustainable water services for rural communities and ensure essential services reach Fijians regardless of where they live.
