Navua Under 16 team has secured the 2024 Digicel Fiji U16 Youth League Southern Zone championship with four rounds still remaining, following a 2-2 draw against Rewa U16.

The result was enough for Navua to clinch the title, as they only needed a point to confirm their victory, whilst Rewa required a win to stay in the hunt.

Rewa took the lead early with a stunning 30-yard free-kick from captain Avishaan Chand in the 15th minute, but Navua fought back in the second half.

Jone L and Rean C scored for Navua, giving them a brief lead before Rewa’s Pita Rabo Jabo Junior equalised, setting up a tense finish. Despite Rewa’s efforts, Navua held firm to secure the draw and the championship.

Navua’s head coach, Saiyad Ali, commended his players for their dedication and teamwork.

He stressed the importance of their youth development system in producing talented players, reinforcing Navua’s growing reputation in Fijian football.

Navua, with 23 points from nine matches, remains undefeated, far ahead of second-place Suva (12 points from six matches) and third-place Rewa (12 points from seven matches).

Looking ahead, Navua will look to finish the season undefeated, with upcoming fixtures including matches against Rewa and other key teams in the remaining rounds.

The final and playoffs will be held at a later date, with exact venues and times to be confirmed.
