Fiji Navy personnel have completed specialised training with the Royal Australian Air Force to strengthen air and maritime coordination during search and rescue operations.

The training focused on the safe preparation, handling and aerial deployment of emergency survival equipment, improving the ability to deliver critical supplies quickly and accurately to vessels or people in distress across Fiji’s extensive maritime area.

The initiative forms part of the Defence Pacific Air Program, which aims to enhance the integration of air capabilities with naval assets, the Rescue Coordination Centre Fiji and operational planning to improve the detection of incidents, emergency response and support at sea.

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces said the training will help strengthen Fiji’s maritime safety and search and rescue capabilities while enhancing coordination between air and sea operations.

The RFMF also acknowledged the Australian Defence Force and the Royal Australian Air Force for their ongoing partnership, technical expertise and continued support in building Fiji’s maritime security and emergency response capacity.
