Strengthening leadership development within the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) took centre stage yesterday as Commander of the Fiji Navy, Captain Timoci Natuva, formally opened the Veiliutaki Framework Lead Teams Course at the Force Training Group (FTG).

In his first official visit to FTG since taking up his appointment, Captain Natuva was welcomed with a Quarter Guard ceremony, a traditional display of military courtesy rendered by the training staff.

Delivering the opening address, Captain Natuva underscored the critical role of leadership training in building a capable and resilient defence force.

He pointed out the strategic value of local military education, highlighting that programmes like the Veiliutaki Framework course are specifically designed to align with Fiji’s operational realities and defence priorities.

“Locally developed training is not only cost-effective but deeply relevant to our context,” he said, stressing that such initiatives are essential in cultivating leaders who can respond effectively to both national and regional challenges.

Following the address, the Commander was given an extensive operational and structural briefing on FTG’s functions and contributions.

The session provided an overview of how the training group supports the development of disciplined, skilled, and adaptable personnel across the Navy and wider RFMF.

The Veiliutaki Framework Lead Teams Course represents an important pillar in the military’s ongoing leadership enhancement strategy, aiming to equip personnel with the practical tools and principles required to lead with confidence, competence, and cultural awareness.
