The 2026 edition of the New Caledonia Film Festival will showcase six short films with English subtitles at the University of the South Pacific, with free entry for the public.

The festival was held at the Japan-Pacific Theatre at USP’s Laucala Campus yesterday. 

Organised by film enthusiast Benjamin Wheeler, the screening will give audiences an opportunity to experience New Caledonian cinema and engage in a discussion following the films.

Wheeler will lead the post-screening discussion, allowing attendees to share their perspectives and reflect on the stories presented.

The six films were provided by Dr Yves Lafoy, the official representative of New Caledonia to Fiji under the New Caledonian Government.

All films were screened with English subtitles, making them accessible to a wider audience.

The festival is sponsored by the Government of New Caledonia and its permanent representation in Fiji, the New Caledonian Delegation, based at the French Embassy.

It is held in partnership with Alliance Française Suva and the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies.

The screening is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity for film enthusiasts, students and the wider community to engage with New Caledonian storytelling and Pacific cultural expression.
