The Coca-Cola Games organisers have announced a new opportunity, for athletes who fail to qualify from their zones, to still have a chance to compete in the prestigious Secondary Schools Athletics Competition.
This initiative aims to provide more athletes with the opportunity to participate in the event, thereby promoting inclusivity and fairness.
The Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association has implemented new criteria for athletes to qualify for the Coca-Cola Games.
According to Biu Colati, athletes must meet specific qualifying standards in order to advance to the games, regardless of their event category.
For those athletes who fail to meet the qualifying standards at their respective zones, there will be a second chance provided through a national qualifier.
This national qualifier will take place in Lautoka next week, and athletes will need to compete in their zones to earn a spot in this event.
Colati emphasises that these qualifying standards aim to raise the level of competition at this year’s Coca-Cola Games, ensuring that only the best athletes will participate.
This heightened competition is expected to make the event more exciting and intense.
The Coca-Cola Games are scheduled to take place next month at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
