Visitors, tourism operators and the wider business community at Port Denarau now have an added layer of security following the opening of a new police post at the marina on yesterday.

The new community police post was established through a partnership between the Fiji Police Force and the private sector, with Port Denarau Marina Pte Limited (PDML) providing the land and Flame Tree Ltd purchasing and refurbishing the container used for the facility.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu formally received the new post during the opening ceremony, recognising the continued contribution of Fiji’s business community towards strengthening law enforcement and public safety.

With Fiji recording strong visitor arrivals and Denarau remaining a major tourism hub and gateway to popular island destinations, Commissioner Tudravu said partnerships of this nature support both national security and the country’s economic growth.

He said the private sector’s contribution to policing aligns with his strategic leadership focus on Stability and Growth, noting that a secure environment can strengthen investor confidence, support tourism and create more employment opportunities.

Commissioner Tudravu also pointed to visitor arrival figures as an indication of Fiji’s continued appeal as a holiday destination. In June 2026, holidaymakers accounted for 81 per cent of all visitor arrivals.

He said security remains an important consideration for travellers when selecting a destination, making collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector essential in maintaining an environment where visitors can confidently experience Fiji’s hospitality.

Port Denarau Marina Limited General Manager Cynthia Rasch shared similar views, highlighting the critical role security plays in supporting the tourism industry.

The occasion also saw the opening of a new jetty designed to accommodate additional vessels at the marina. Mrs Rasch said the increased capacity is expected to benefit the wider tourism sector by generating greater demand and creating further employment opportunities.

The Fiji Police Force has acknowledged the ongoing support of the business community, saying such partnerships are important in strengthening law enforcement capabilities and contributing to a safer environment for residents, visitors and businesses.
