The HFC Bank Stadium in Suva will host two major international sporting events this July, following a coordinated agreement between the Fiji Football Association (FFA), Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), and the Fiji Sports Council (FSC).

After careful negotiations, the three sporting bodies have confirmed that the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025 and the highly anticipated rugby test match between Fiji and Scotland will both proceed as planned, with a shared use of the venue.

The FFA had initially booked the stadium from July 1–21 for the FIFA-sanctioned women’s football tournament.

However, the FSC later confirmed a booking for the FRU to host Scotland on July 12. Rather than allow the schedule conflict to derail either event, the organizations worked closely to reach a compromise.

With approval from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), a new arrangement will allow the rugby match to be held between football fixtures, on the condition that the stadium pitch is restored to football-ready standards by July 14 free of rugby markings or any field damage.

“This is a win for both sports,” said FFA CEO Mohammed Yusuf.

“We thank OFC for their flexibility and trust, and we’re committed to delivering a top-class football tournament while supporting Fiji Rugby.”

FRU General Manager Operations, Sale Sorovaki, expressed gratitude for the compromise. “Hosting Scotland is a huge moment for us. We’re thankful to FFA and OFC for making this possible.”

FSC CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure commended the spirit of cooperation.

“This is what national sports bodies should aim for collaboration that benefits athletes, fans, and Fiji as a whole.”

The successful coordination of these two marquee events highlights the potential of cross-sport collaboration and promises an exciting month of elite football and rugby for local and regional fans.
