The Online Safety Commission is warning social media users against sharing intimate images and videos without consent, amid allegations involving a Cabinet minister at the centre of a viral explicit video.
In a public awareness notice, the Commission stressed that private means private, reminding the public that being entrusted with an intimate image does not give anyone the right to share it.
The warning comes as an explicit video allegedly posted on a Cabinet minister’s Facebook Story has circulated on social media. The video was reportedly removed shortly after it appeared online. The circumstances surrounding the post have not been confirmed.
The Commission urged people not to post, forward, repost or distribute intimate images or videos without the consent of the person featured.
It also warned that sharing such content can violate a person’s privacy, damage their reputation, cause emotional harm and potentially constitute a criminal offence under the Online Safety Act.
