Pioneer Radio Announcer passes on but Legacy lives on

Viti FM Radio Announcer, Maikeli Radua passed away last Saturday, and for 30 years, millions of people, in Fiji and the world have listened to his voice.

A pioneer for Viti FM, Radua was know for his humor and is loved by many.  

Fiji One News met with a few who have expressed remorse over his passing and have also shared how important Radua was in their and their children’s upbringing.

Avid VITI FM listener Salanieta Vuki says Maikeli Radua shared so many life lessons on airwaves over the years which she lives by, even today. 

“When we heard that Maikeli Radua had passed away, we were so remorseful because we knew very well how he was and even though we were not related by blood, we became related through his broadcasting everyday and we always liked the way he brought up my family though his teachings. My family is really concerned because we’ve felt that something is now missing, a parent, a good teacher for my family. I, now have grandchildren Maikeli Radua taught me and my husband he taught my children and now he’s taught my grandchildren about the importance of going to school.”

Venisita Bati has been listening to Maikeli Radua since he started as an announcer 30 years ago.

She says his passing has touched millions of hearts as he was a man who brought people together through his jokes and stories.

“With Maikeli Radua’s passing although we were not related by blood. We were not related by blood, the way he carried out his job on Viti FM, really affected us. He was a man that was kind, he was a comedian and made us laugh all the time and that’s the whole reason his passing really touched us, like a piece of us disappears due you to Maikeli Radua’s passing not only in Fiji but globally. “

20 years now, Jeremaia Daucakacaka reminisces about the time Maikeli Radua would visit them at the market just to have a chat.

He also expressed his condolences to Radua’s family who have not only lost their dad but their best friend.

“Whenever he came to the market, we’d chat and have a good laugh and this week when we heard of his passing, we reminisced on the times we’d meet and mingle around with each other. To Maikeli Radua’s family, we give our best wishes and our condolences to the family of on the passing of a son and of a friend. “

The late Maikeli Radua was 50 years old and is survived by wife, Maria Biuwaqa Radua and four children, Jone Radua, Maikeli Radua Junior, Aminiasi Koroi Radua,and Joyce Radua.

Radua will be laid to rest this Saturday at his village in Waikete Tailevu, but his legacy lives on.
