A police officer and his wife have been remanded in custody after appearing at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today over the alleged assault of a 12-year-old boy.
The accused, George Tale and his wife, Tofua Raiyasi, are jointly charged with one count of Act Intended to Cause Grievous Harm.
The charge relates to an alleged incident on September 8, where the boy was allegedly assaulted with an extension cord.
Senior Prosecutor Simione Seruvatu objected to bail, citing the domestic relationship between the parties and the possibility of interference.
The court also issued an interim Domestic Violence Restraining Order to protect the alleged victim.
The accused opted to have the matter dealt with in the Magistrates Court and were advised to file a formal bail application.
Both accused are seeking legal aid.
They have been remanded, with the matter adjourned to the 21st of this month.
