Fijians are being urged to exercise caution when making accusations or sharing information on social media, with Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu warning that public calls for answers must remain within the boundaries of the law.

Tudravu said the Fiji Police Force understands the public’s desire for quick investigations and more information, but stressed that police work must follow established legal procedures.

He said the Force accepts criticism, but warned against the intentional spread of false or misleading information that could cause harm.

The Commissioner also raised concerns over individuals being publicly accused or targeted without supporting evidence, saying such actions can unfairly damage people’s reputations.

According to Tudravu, social media is increasingly being used as a tool against public officials and private individuals.

He reminded the public that investigations are governed by legal processes and that those processes must be allowed to take their course.

Tudravu said accountability must ultimately be established through the courts, while investigators continue their work.

He also thanked religious organisations for their continued prayers and support for the Fiji Police Force, as well as members of the public who continue to support law enforcement.

The Commissioner said Police are working around the clock to establish the facts and identify those involved, while appealing to the public to give investigators the space needed to complete their work.
