The Fiji Police Force is again warning members of the public about the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption following two separate serious assault cases.

Police say alcohol was involved in both incidents, prompting renewed calls for people to drink responsibly and avoid behaviour that could put themselves or others at risk.

The first incident occurred at the Caubati New Subdivision on September 5, where a man in his 40s allegedly stabbed a 26-year-old man several times with a pair of scissors during an argument.

Police say the suspect also sustained injuries during the scuffle, and both men were taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to Police, both men were heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The suspect has since been discharged from hospital and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested after allegedly drinking alcohol in a public place in Lami on the night of September 7.

Police allege the man assaulted a police officer and damaged police uniforms during the incident.

He is also alleged to have verbally abused and threatened police officers.

The man has been charged with one count each of drinking in a public place, serious assault, damaging property and criminal intimidation.

He is expected to appear at the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Police are urging members of the public to consume alcohol in moderation, warning that excessive drinking can contribute to violence and other safety and security risks.
