The proposed political party One Nation has officially submitted its application for registration, according to the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa.

Ms Mataiciwa confirmed the application was lodged on Thursday, 21 May 2026, after an earlier submission under the name “FijiansFirst” was rejected for being too similar to the deregistered FijiFirst party.

Under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013, proposed party names cannot closely resemble those of deregistered political parties if they are likely to cause confusion.

The Registrar said preparations are now underway to publish One Nation’s application in local newspapers and the Fiji Government Gazette, which will trigger the official objections period.

During this period, members of the public will be able to submit written objections regarding the application. Ms Mataiciwa said all objections will be reviewed within seven days after the proposed party is given an opportunity to respond.

A final decision on whether One Nation will be officially registered as a political party will be made once the legal review and objections process is completed.

Ms Mataiciwa also stressed the importance of transparency and public participation throughout the registration process to ensure all political parties meet legal requirements.
