Despite Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo being considered eligible for the position of Attorney General, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has today confirmed that neither is being considered for the role.

Speaking to the media, Rabuka highlighted the vetting process has ruled out candidates from within government, with one candidate from outside government now being considered for the position.

He said the appointment process is still ongoing, with no confirmed timeline for when the new Attorney General will be announced.

The position remains important as Parliament prepares to consider the proposed Constitution Amendment Bill.

“Not from government. Not from government” he said.

“Outside, we are looking out” Rabuka confirmed.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya said the final decision rests with the Prime Minister, despite her belief that she is qualified and suitable for the position.

Speaking to the media, she highlighted that she was surprised by reports that she was being considered for the role but respects the Prime Minister’s decision.

“I am qualified, and I believe I am suitable as well, but it’s his call, so I respect his decision” Tabuya said.
