The upcoming Ratu Sukuna Public Holiday is expected to include an educational symposium, inclusive of schools around the country.

A budget of three hundred thousand dollars has been set aside for this annual celebration.

The celebration, which is expected to run from the 29th to the 31st of this month will focus on educating the public on the enduring legacy of Ratu Sir Josefa Lalabalavu Vanayaliyali Sukuna.

The national holiday, which was reinstated last year after it was removed in 2010, is expected to draw more attention to awareness and education this year.

“This symposium will engage our students and youths, educating them on Ratu Sukuna visionary, contributing to education while seeking their views on how his contribution can take the nation forward”, Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Isikeli Tuiwailevu said.

Nephew of the late Ratu Sir Lalabalavu Sukuna, Ratu Timoci Daniel Tavanavanua delivered the keynote address at the soft launch.

He says, Ratu Sukuna’s immense contribution to land management reform and iTaukei development is unmatched.

“Ratu Sukuna was a man whose dedication to service, education, and nation building left an idelible mark on Fiji’s history”, Ratu Tavanavanua said.

“During WW2 he played a pivotal role in preparing Fiji’s defences”, he added.

Activities will be running for 3 days starting on the 29th to the 31st of May.

Schools, both Primary and Secodary, will convene at the Albert Park for educational contests, where a Public exhibition will be on full display.

“I urge every Fijian to lend our full support to this celebration event. We will ensure that Ratu Sukuna’s great vision and noble aspiration and legacy for Fiji continues”, Tuiwalevu said.
