Cristiano Ronaldo delivered a record-breaking performance as Portugal secured a commanding 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group K clash at Houston Stadium on Tuesday.

The Portuguese captain wasted little time making an impact, opening the scoring in the sixth minute after finishing from close range following a cross from Joao Cancelo.

The goal saw the 41-year-old become the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cups, while also making him the second-oldest goalscorer in tournament history, behind Roger Milla.

Portugal doubled their advantage in the 17th minute when Nuno Mendes found the net with a superb free-kick, with Ronaldo’s movement helping create the opportunity.

The veteran forward then added his second goal of the match just before half-time, guiding a precise finish into the corner to register his 10th World Cup goal and surpass Eusebio as Portugal’s all-time leading scorer at the tournament.

The Europeans continued to dominate after the break and extended their lead through an own goal by Uzbekistan goalkeeper Utkir Nematov in the 60th minute.

Rafa Leao completed the scoring three minutes from time to cap an emphatic Portuguese display.

Uzbekistan, appearing in their first World Cup, believed they had pulled one back through a spectacular long-range strike from Azizjon Ganiev. However, the effort was disallowed following a foul in the build-up.

After claiming their first-ever World Cup goal against Colombia, the debutants now face an uphill battle to keep their tournament hopes alive.
