The revitalization of the Lomaloma Jetty on Vanua Balavu Island marks a significant milestone in improving transportation and service delivery for communities in the Lau Group.

Lau Group Provincial Administrator Mr. Iokobo Waqanidrola described the reopening as a major relief for residents who had struggled since the jetty ceased operations in 2021. “This isn’t just a repair,” he said, “it’s the mending of our island’s heart.”

The upgraded jetty reestablishes a critical link for the daily movement of goods and services, narrowing the infrastructure gap between island and urban areas. It is also expected to boost tourism by providing a more reliable port of entry for visitors to the island.

Mr. Waqanidrola expressed appreciation for the restoration efforts, noting that operational infrastructure is key to supporting livelihoods and enhancing regional connectivity.
