Communities across Rewa are expected to see continued improvements in essential services and infrastructure as Government maintains its investment in rural development projects throughout the province.

The commitment was highlighted by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Mosese Bulitavu, during the opening of the 2026 Rewa Provincial Council Meeting at Lokia Village yesterday.

The ongoing investment is expected to support communities through initiatives focused on safer evacuation centres, reliable water supplies, housing assistance, improved access roads and disaster risk reduction.

Following the provincial council meeting, Minister Bulitavu officially commissioned the refurbished Lokia Village Evacuation Centre, which was upgraded at a cost of more than $15,000 through funding from the Ministry.

The improved facility is expected to provide villagers and surrounding communities with a safer place to seek shelter during emergencies, particularly in times of flooding.

Minister Bulitavu said approximately $500,000 was invested in Rewa during the 2025–2026 financial year through various rural development programmes.

The funding supported initiatives covering rural housing, emergency water supply, community access roads, evacuation centres, high-risk water and sanitation facilities, as well as disaster risk reduction projects.

Beyond rural development programmes, the Minister also pointed to Government investments in areas such as roads, fisheries, education and social protection.

He said the proposed National Rural Development Policy would further strengthen coordination in rural development and help ensure communities benefit from more integrated support.

Provincial leaders were also encouraged to uphold strong leadership and good governance while working collectively to respond to emerging social challenges, including illicit drugs and HIV.

Minister Bulitavu urged communities to make the most of available Government assistance programmes and continue working together to support the sustainable development of Rewa Province.
