The Commanding Officer of the Third Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR), Lieutenant Colonel Pio Varawa, served as Chief Guest at the closing of Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Kindergarten yesterday.
In his address, Lt Col Varawa paid tribute to the unwavering dedication of teachers, families, and staff, describing them as the backbone of a brighter Fiji.
He highlighted the significance of early education, noting that while the military may focus on national security, the most important mission lies in preparing the next generation.
“To our little ones—you are smart, brave, and full of potential.
Keep learning and dreaming,” he said, offering words of encouragement to the young students.
Lt Col Varawa emphasized the critical role of parental involvement in shaping a child’s future and called teachers “unsung heroes” whose everyday sacrifices often go unnoticed, but whose impact lasts a lifetime.
He ended with a call to action: “If we want a better Fiji tomorrow, we must invest in our children’s education today,” quoting Nelson Mandela to drive home the point that education is the most powerful tool for change.
Lt Col Varawa was joined by his RSM, Warrant Officer Class 1 Jone Rokobiau, and Adjutant Lieutenant Timoci Vakatawa during the event.
