Senior warrant officers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces have strengthened regional defence ties and expanded their leadership expertise after participating in the Indo-Pacific Senior Enlisted Leaders Subject Matter Expert Exchange (IPSEL SMEE 26-1) in Bandar Seri Begawan from 22–27 June 2026.

The regional programme brought together senior enlisted leaders from across the Indo-Pacific to share professional experiences, enhance leadership capabilities and reinforce military cooperation in support of regional peace and security.

The Fijian delegation was led by Force Sergeant Major Joeli Rabuli, who served as the event’s Senior Mentor and Seminar Facilitator.

He also joined a panel of Senior Enlisted Advisors to Chiefs of Defence, where he shared the RFMF’s approach to leadership, force development and the evolving responsibilities of senior enlisted personnel.

Throughout the exchange, RFMF representatives contributed to discussions on leadership, team development, emerging security threats and the future needs of modern armed forces.

M. Vakalala was recognised for his active participation after contributing questions and insights during sessions with facilitators and senior enlisted advisors.

A major feature of the programme was a series of presentations on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and space force capabilities, giving participants an introduction to emerging technologies shaping modern defence operations.

The sessions explored how AI can improve operational efficiency and decision-making while highlighting the growing importance of space-based capabilities in military planning and operations.

Although these technologies are relatively new to the RFMF, the knowledge gained is expected to support the Force’s understanding of future defence developments.

The Fijian delegation also included L. Matanisiga, J.R. Vakararawa, and J. Sivo.

The RFMF said its participation reflects its ongoing commitment to professional military education, leadership development and closer defence cooperation with regional and international partners to support peace, security and stability across the Indo-Pacific.
