The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and the Nevada National Guard have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding defence cooperation following a meeting between their senior commanders in Suva.

Nevada National Guard Adjutant General Major General D. Rogers Waters led a delegation on a courtesy visit to RFMF Headquarters at Berkeley Crescent on 14 July, where they met with Commander RFMF Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai.

The discussions focused on advancing the capability and professionalism of Fiji’s Territorial Force through joint training, leadership development and professional military education.

Both leaders recognised the progress achieved in strengthening non-commissioned officer development and military education, which has enhanced leadership and operational performance within the RFMF.

The meeting also explored closer collaboration in supporting civilian sectors, establishing a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programme, cyber defence and counter-drug operations.

Upcoming bilateral activities, including Exercise Cartwheel and Exercise Bougainville, were also discussed as part of ongoing efforts to improve operational readiness, interoperability and regional security.

Major General Kalouniwai thanked the Nevada National Guard for its continued support, with both commanders reaffirming their commitment to deeper cooperation through shared expertise, combined training and sustained engagement to address emerging regional security challenges.
