Twenty-four Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel will undergo the 1/24 International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) course.

The upskilling exercise is organized by the Engineers Squadron in collaboration with the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation (GWHF), with a focus on training and equipping personnel to establish a safe, efficient and effective EOD capability.

While officiating the course, RFMF Chief of Staff, Land Force Command, Colonel Viliame Draunibaka said that the conduct of such courses complemented the Strategic Plan Beyond 2022, especially in the area of pursuing operational excellence. He urged the participants to give it their best shot, as it would not only increase the RFMF’s operational capabilities but also enhance their skills and knowledge.

Major Paxton of the US Embassy in Fiji said that they were excited to see the number of participants that signed up for the course and explained that having the skill set would place them in good stead when it came to peacekeeping missions abroad and also in operations conducted in the region.

GWHF has successfully conducted level 1 and 2 IMAS courses in the RFMF with an outstanding pass rate.
