Australia is preparing to welcome the world for the biggest Rugby World Cup ever, with thousands of volunteers now being recruited to help deliver the expanded 2027 tournament.

Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 will run from 1 October to 13 November 2027, featuring 24 nations and 52 matches across seven Australian Host Cities. About 3,500 volunteers will be part of the tournament, helping fans, teams and visitors experience the event across its six-week schedule.

The volunteer program, known as Team27, will place people at the centre of the tournament experience, with opportunities covering customer service, fan engagement and tournament operations.

Volunteers will also contribute to areas such as transport, accommodation, media operations, fan festivals and match venues.

For Rugby World Cup fans, the program offers a chance to experience the tournament beyond the stands and play a role in bringing the global rugby community together.

No previous volunteering or major-event experience is required. Organisers say enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment will be key qualities for those joining the program.

Successful applicants will receive tournament training and official Rugby World Cup 2027 uniforms before taking up their roles.

They will also have opportunities to meet other volunteers, build skills and connect with people involved in the international tournament.

Team27 is open to applicants with Australian working rights who will be at least 18 years old by 1 April 2027. Eligible applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents or hold a visa with working rights that allow volunteering.

Applications are open until 23:59 AEST on 1 October 2026 through the official Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Volunteer Portal.
