Seaweed farmers in Dama, Bua, are set to increase production following the completion of new farming infrastructure by the Ministry of Fisheries.

The Ministry’s Seaweed Team has installed a longline system across six farms, providing capacity for up to 1,000 seaweed lines. The development is expected to give farmers greater scope to expand their operations while improving the efficiency of their farming activities.

During the final phase of the work, the team also put up additional posts and harvested seaweed for preparation and replanting. The fresh stock will support farmers as they begin their next planting cycle.

The infrastructure is aimed at strengthening seaweed production while creating greater income opportunities for communities through sustainable aquaculture. The initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to develop the aquaculture sector and support sustainable livelihoods in rural and maritime communities.
