Six medical professionals who were reported missing at sea in the Lau Group have been found safe after an extensive search operation.
The Republic of Fiji Navy confirmed tonight that the search concluded successfully after the group was located about 11 nautical miles southwest of Lakeba by the Lomaiviti Princess 12.
All six individuals were safely rescued and are expected to undergo medical assessments.
In a statement, the Navy thanked the mariners and vessels operating in the area for responding promptly and supporting the search effort.
Special recognition was given to the captain and crew of Lomaiviti Princess 12 for locating and successfully rescuing the missing group.
The Navy also acknowledged the efforts of government agencies, search teams, communities and individuals whose coordinated response contributed to the successful outcome.
“This incident demonstrates the importance of cooperation, vigilance and coordination amongst agencies and mariners.”
The six medical professionals had earlier been reported missing while travelling in the Lau Group, prompting a multi-agency search and rescue operation.
