Six healthcare workers rescued after going missing in the Lau waters were too weak to disembark when they arrived at Lakeba, highlighting the physical toll of their ordeal at sea.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services said the six-member medical outreach team, comprising a Medical Officer, Dental Officer, Charge Nurse, Peer Educator, Health Inspector and Dental Assistant, was found alive at around 7pm last night by the crew of Goundar Shipping Services’ Lomaiviti Princess 12.

They were taken to Lakeba Sub-Divisional Hospital for comprehensive medical assessment and care.

However, because they were too weak to leave the vessel upon arrival, the Lakeba medical team boarded the ship with essential medical supplies to begin treatment immediately.

The ministry said all six were in stable condition and expressed gratitude to the rescue teams and the people of Fiji for their prayers and support throughout the search operation.
