Spain are world champions once again after defeating Argentina 1-0 in a dramatic FIFA World Cup final, securing their second title with an extra-time winner from Ferran Torres.

Torres emerged as the hero for Spain, firing home the decisive goal in the 106th minute to break the deadlock and hand his side a historic victory. The triumph marks Spain’s second World Cup title, with their first coming in 2010.

Spain controlled much of the contest from start to finish, dominating possession with 65 percent of the ball and creating numerous scoring opportunities. La Roja registered 20 shots throughout the match, keeping constant pressure on the Argentine defense.

Argentina struggled to gain a foothold in the game, managing just two shots in the entire final. Their challenge became even tougher late in the match when midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, forcing the South Americans to play the closing stages of regulation and extra time with 10 men.

Despite the defeat, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez delivered a remarkable performance between the posts. The shot-stopper produced 11 saves, setting a new World Cup final record and keeping his side in contention for much of the contest.

However, Martínez’s heroics were not enough to deny Spain, who finally found the breakthrough in extra time to cap a dominant display and lift football’s most coveted trophy once again.
