The Ministry of Agriculture is currently undertaking a survey with a full enumeration of 1978 rice farming households in Fiji.

The purpose of the survey is to generate basic information on the structure and status of rice production, farming system, processing and marketing in Fiji to ensure the development of a good-sound strategic plan for the Rice Industry in the future.

It is an integrated survey involving the Ministry’s Research, Crop Extension, Land Resource Planning and Development and Economic Planning and Statistics Division coordinated by the Fiji Agriculture & Rural Statistics Unit.

The Ministry continues to use Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) as a system of collecting agriculture data through the Kobo toolbox and Q-Field Software. Survey coverage and Data Quality are the two important pillars of all surveys conducted by the Ministry, thus the adoption of the two software as it validates data as collected from the field.

The Ministry staff have been visiting the listed rice farming households across the three geographical divisions (Central, Northern and Western) in the past five weeks, anticipating full coverage by mid-July 2023.

Rice farmers across the regions are encouraged to cooperate with Ministry staff that will be at their doorsteps for this purpose.

Quality baseline data improves planning, operational efficiency, and decision-making.
