Suspended Police Officer Kolinio Naturaga appeared at the Nasinu Magistrates Court before Magistrate Charles Ratakele and has been remanded.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions sanctioned the charges against the Police officer alleged to have raped a woman at the Valelevu Police single men’s barracks.
Naturaga has been charged with one count of Rape Contrary to Section 207 (1) and (2) (a) of the Crimes Act 2009.
It was heard in court that the accused is not related to the complainant.
The charges were read out in court.
The matter has been transferred to the High Court as it is an indictable offense and will be heard next week Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Acting Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci reaffirms the organisation’s commitment of ensuring due processes are followed in relation to any report lodged against a police officer, through the conduct of an internal or crime investigation, whereby an independent legal advice is sought from the ODPP with regards to a criminal matter.
