Authorities are continuing investigations into dozens of suspicious parcels discovered in Fiji’s maritime regions, with 27 packages containing white substances now undergoing analysis at the Fiji Police Forensics Laboratory in Suva.

Police officers from the Forensic and Criminal Investigations Department have joined the Republic of Fiji Navy in efforts to recover a further 35 parcels spotted floating near Munia Island on Thursday.

The Fiji Police Force acknowledged the swift response of community members, particularly the Turaga ni Koro, whose report led to the parcels being secured by officers in Vanua Balavu.

The latest discoveries follow earlier incidents in Kadavu and Qamea. A parcel recovered in Kadavu tested positive for cocaine, while another package found along the shoreline near a settlement in Qamea was quickly retrieved by Police for examination.

Investigators are working to recover all parcels and determine their origin and intended destination, with support from local and regional law enforcement partners.

Police are urging residents in coastal communities to immediately report any suspicious packages to 1681 and avoid touching or opening them.
