As the major renovation work at the Suva Bus Stand nears completion, the Suva City Council is prepared to usher in a new age of safety and convenience for Suva’s public transportation passengers.

In collaboration with the Fiji Roads Authority, the vital infrastructure upgrade that began in February this year, underwent a meticulous planning and operational stage with its key priority to minimize disruptions for bus operators and commuters traveling to and from the city.

Acting CEO for Suva City Council, Tevita Boseiwaqa says the Council is optimistic about the execution of the project given the steady progress achieved across all stages.

Key progress updates as of today include:

Stage 1: Entire Bus Stand and Connecting Road – Underground Drainage Upgrade: 100% COMPLETE

Stage 2: Road and Pavement Upgrades:

  • Phase 1 (Rodwell Rd Bus Stand Entry, inner lane): Milling, Excavation, Basecourse, Cement Stabilization, Basecourse Curing, Asphalt Pavement and Surface Drainage are complete. Linemarking is pending.
  • Phase 2 (along Western Bus Stand & Escott St): Milling, Basecourse, Cement Stabilization, Basecourse Curing, Asphalt Pavement and Surface Drainage are complete. Linemarking is currently at 20%.
  • Phase 3 (tarmac between Terminal 2 & 3): Surface Prep, Asphalt Regrading, Basecourse and Asphalt Pavement are complete. Surface Drainage is at 50% and linemarking is pending.
  • Phase 4 (tarmac between Terminal 1 & 2): Surface Prep, Asphalt Regrading & Pavement, and Hump construction are complete. Surface Drainage is at 45% and linemarking is pending.

The Council would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation and patience throughout these crucial works, and acknowledges the disruptions created by such a large undertaking.

Meanwhile, while the project is expected to be finished in the upcoming weeks, SCC is also actively organizing upcoming initiatives to improve the city’s public areas and infrastructure.
