Tailevu Province is stepping up efforts to establish a new development hub, Tailevu City, with this year’s Tailevu Day celebrations focused on raising funds to bring the ambitious project closer to reality.
The proposed development will be built on six acres of land at Vuniivi, which has been allocated for a Tailevu Provincial Council House, meeting facilities for women and youth groups, and commercial developments, including supermarkets and Airbnb accommodation.
Head of the Tailevu Day Fundraising Committee Peni Sokia says the initiative marks a major step towards establishing a dedicated centre for provincial administration, business and community development.
Sokia says Tailevu will continue investing in education and development, as it has done in previous years. However, this year’s celebrations will place a stronger focus on fundraising to support the development of the newly allocated land and advance the vision of Tailevu City.
Tailevu Provincial Council Chairman Semi Matalau says the province has prioritised the development by setting aside land for a permanent council meeting venue.
Matalau says the facility will address the ongoing challenge of finding suitable venues for provincial meetings while providing a dedicated space for council activities and community gatherings.
He says the proposed development is also expected to create employment opportunities for the people of Tailevu, from the initial planning stages through to construction.
He says involving local people in the project will ensure the benefits extend beyond infrastructure development by creating income opportunities, supporting local businesses and contributing to economic growth across the province.
The proposed Tailevu City represents a long-term investment in the province’s future, bringing together provincial administration, community facilities and commercial activities in one location.
Through the Tailevu Day fundraising initiative, the province hopes to lay the foundation for a development that will create jobs, strengthen local businesses and deliver lasting benefits for future generations of Tailevu.
