Villagers from across the Tikina of Sawakasa in Tailevu gathered at Nananu Village Hall this week for a hands-on training focused on food preservation and climate-resilient gardening, aimed at bolstering disaster preparedness and environmental sustainability.

The workshop brought together 23 participants from 11 villages, including Nasinu, Delakado, Driti, Burelevu, and Namena. Organized by Live and Learn, the training introduced traditional food preservation techniques and promoted locally adapted crops for income generation in the face of climate change.

The Department of Women Central Division also contributed, conducting sessions on home-based food use, financial planning, and the importance of sustainable practices for long-term food security.

With climate impacts already felt across Fiji, such capacity-building programs are seen as essential to fostering self-reliant, climate-resilient communities.

The initiative particularly focused on empowering women through practical knowledge-sharing and sustainable living practices.
