The Ministry of Education has welcomed the resumption of bus services by Taveuni Buses Pte Limited, following confirmation from the company that operations restarted today, 22 July 2026.

Permanent Secretary for Education Navin Raj said the return of bus services is a positive development for students, parents and schools across Taveuni, allowing students to attend classes without further interruption.

He said contingency measures put in place by the Ministry helped reduce the impact of the service suspension, with student attendance reaching about 95 per cent today. The Literacy and Numeracy Assessment for Year 5 and Year 7 also went ahead successfully, recording a 98 per cent attendance rate.

Students who missed yesterday’s assessment will be able to complete it on the scheduled catch-up day.

Mr Raj encouraged all students to continue attending school as planned and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working with transport operators and relevant authorities to ensure reliable access to education.

The Ministry also acknowledged the support of Taveuni Buses Pte Limited, the Office of the Commissioner Northern, the Land Transport Authority, the Fiji Police Force, the Ministry’s Northern Division, school leaders, temporary transport providers, parents and the wider community for their cooperation throughout the disruption.
