A 39-year-old teacher has been charged in connection with the alleged abduction of a Year 10 student in Taveuni.
Police allege that the accused and the student had been communicating through a messaging platform regarding plans to be together.
The exchanges were reportedly discovered by the teacher’s wife, who alerted the school principal.
Investigators claim the teacher was found with the student inside his vehicle near her home on the night of 7 June 2026. The incident was subsequently reported to Police, leading to an investigation.
Following inquiries, the teacher was charged with one count of abduction. He is scheduled to appear before the Taveuni Magistrates Court today, Thursday 11 June 2026.
