Thousands of Fijians in Vanua Levu will now benefit from high-speed internet access following the launch of Telecom Fiji’s Fiber Optic Extension project.

The initiative aims to enhance digital connectivity, supporting economic growth and improving access to education, healthcare, and business opportunities in the Northern Division.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the importance of reliable communication for economic development and disaster resilience.

He described the project as a major milestone in strengthening Fiji’s telecommunications infrastructure and fostering a more connected future.

The fiber optic extension is part of Telecom Fiji’s five-year investment plan, representing a $10 million commitment to improving digital access.

The project will be implemented in two phases: the first covering the fiber route from Labasa to Seaqaqa, and the second extending to Savusavu, connecting to the Savusavu Cable Landing Station.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to bridging the digital divide, ensuring that even remote communities have access to modern digital opportunities.
