The Employment Ministry is processing over thirty-five thousand applications for seasonal workers programmes in Australia and New Zealand.

Line Minister Agni Deo Singh informed parliament that registrations increased multiple fold from 2019 to 2023 and is an indication that registered clients are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to be considered for work in Australia.

Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh said the backlog is from 2019 and this prompted the ministry to halt registration until August.

The Ministry has engaged volunteers to address the issue with the backlog and ensure accurate data is recorded.

Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu raised concerns over the living conditions of workers under the scheme.

The temporary suspension of client registration under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme is for 7 months and will conclude on the 31 July this year.
