Three people are due to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today over allegations involving falsified tax documents.

A 39-year-old woman from Lautoka, who works as an accounts officer, faces two counts of falsification of documents under Section 160(3) of the Crimes Act 2009.

Two men, a 39-year-old lawyer from Nadi and a 32-year-old lawyer from Ba, each face one count of using forged documents under Section 157(1) of the same Act.

Police allege that in February this year, the accounts officer altered the men’s Tax Compliance Certificates while they were working as legal practitioners for the same law firm.

The alleged purpose was to help them obtain their 2026 practising certificates.

The two lawyers are accused of knowingly submitting the allegedly false certificates to the Legal Practitioners Unit in Suva.

The charges were sanctioned by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

All three are expected to appear in custody before the Suva Magistrates Court today.
